Each pair of Ben Yehuda Mini Candlesticks are hand-made from pure silver. The Ben Yehuda Collection is infamous as the first collection designed in Israel by the late Josef Merdinger, which draws on the characteristics of Baroque-style which was popular amongst Austro-Hungarian Jews. Inspired by Eliezer Ben-Yehuda’s revival of the Hebrew language, Josef imagined these candlesticks as the renewal of the Jewish people’s tradition of silver art and so named his first collection as a tribute to Ben-Yehuda.
These luxurious candlesticks are created by skilled and dedicated silversmiths- symbolizing the intention and investment in the Shabbat, giving great honor and added elegance to the mitzvot of kindling the Shabbat lights. Merdinger escaped Europe before the war, carrying only a suitcase containing his silversmith’s tools and his vision to revive the tradition of Jewish jewelry-making and the traditional skills of hand-made silver art in the Land of Israel.
