CMSS

The body of this Cumbus is created from spun aluminum and the sound board is a synthetic drum head. Together, they create an amazing amount of resonance. The neck and bridge are wood. It has 6 geared tuning pegs/levers and 6 metal strings; one of which is wound, in 3 courses. The overall dimentions are: 35.5 L x 10 W x 6.25 H in inches

The cumbus is a relatively young instrument. It was developed in Istanbul in the early 1900's. The inventor, Zeynel, became known as Zeynel Abidin Bey. The famous Ataturk Mustafa Kemal, Turkey's first president, dubbed it Cumbus, pronounced joom-bush. Cumbus is Turkish for revelry, just the mood this instrument inspires. Our Cumbus are imported from the Family shop of Zeynel Abidin on Ataturk Bulvar in Istanbul.
