Description
Inscribed: "Gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha" with the symbol for Om. This mantra, the Heart Sutra, does not translate well into English although "gone, gone; gone beyond, well-gone beyond; Complete Awakening" is generally accepted. In essence chanting this mantra is believed to help us visualize emptiness, protecting us from depending on objects so that we can see the true way or path to enlightenment, the essence of the Buddha's teaching.
